All of these players were noted sluggers. But, they alone share the distinction of a certain accomplishment to start their careers. What is it?
- Babe Ruth
- Ralph Kiner
- Harmon Killebrew
- Dave Kingman
- Juan Gonzalez
- Mark McGwire
- Mike Piazza
- Alex Rodriguez
- Ryan Howard
Hint: one active player stands a good chance of joining this group
Looks like this one is a stumper. The solution is that only these players hit 300 home runs over their first 5000 PA, something that Giancarlo Stanton could accomplish next season. Here are our group’s career totals through the game in which each reached 5000 PA.
200 HR before 1000th game
Trout just joined the club on September 30, 2017, I believe.
Never mind, I don’t think that’s it.
Several other active players accomplished the feat.
It’s gotta be something else.
But on the right track.
Something w/ HR in relation to total bases.
You were closer with your first guess.
Almost ready to give up but not quite.
Ryan Howard has played in 1572 games so it may be an accomplishment in 1500 or fewer games. I ran the PI for several numbers of games played in multiples of 100. There are players other than the ones on the list
I know Howard was fastest ever to 100 HR, going by games and at bats (not by age, that’s pretty much always going to be A-Rod).
Kiner was 2nd fastest. I think McGwire was 3rd, but I could be mistaken.
Or Mel Ott. Ott was fastest to 100 by age.
A-Rod was fastest to all the other milestones, I believe.
I guess the thing that’s throwing me off here is:
Where’s Pujols?
Pujols ended up 3 HR short of making this group.
100 HR before 1500 AB.
Not quite right (Eddie Mathews, for one, did this), but you’ve hit on the type of the thing I’m looking for.
300 RBI
RBI do not figure in the quiz.
I thought it was 100 HR before 1750 plate appearances, but Matthews still throws that off.
I’m giving up.
Aaron Judge is the active player, I’ll guess. On pace for 100 homers before 1,300 at-bats.
The solution is that these are the only players with 300 home runs over their first 5000 PA. Giancarlo Stanton should join them next year.
Wow. I should have gone there but didn’t – I assumed it had to be a lesser PA total rather than greater due to the absence of Schmidt, Griffey, Pujols, etc.
You really make it seem really easy together with your presentation however I in finding this matter to be really one
thing that I feel I would by no means understand.
It seems too complex and extremely wide for me. I’m looking ahead in your next publish, I will try to get the hold of it!
