The longer the Orioles keep this thing close, the worse position the Rangers are in. The bottom of the fourth was a classic example of why the O’s win these close games.

John, in answer to your question…yes very possibly so indeed. Attitudes of a team definitely have an effect on new team members, I don’t think there’s any question about it–as long as those new members are of the right frame of mind to begin with. But to some specific replies. First, the striking out of Napoli was very big, given what he did in big games last year. Don’t you think he deserves some credit for rising to the occasion? The pitch he struck him out on was a terrific pitch. But he then had to get Soto as well,… Read more »

Word on the street is that the Orioles are pretty darn good in one-run games. I guess they are messing with Texas.

Are Texas fans suffering from AFS (Atlanta Fan Syndrome)? They’ve become so accustomed to making the playoffs and eventually losing that they’re now bored/jaded/disillusioned with it all?

They just seem so quiet.

9th inning, no extra-base hits in the game yet. Last post-season game with no extra-base hits: Mets/Braves, 1999.

So basically, this year’s two upstarts–the A’s and O’s–are responsible for sending the two time defending AL champ to a quick exit this year. Quite the accomplishment.

And so much for my pick of the Rangers as the 2012 WS champ.

I had them too, Jim. But, echoing you, the Orioles are thumbing their nose at every unbreakable law of sabermetrics, and if there ever has been an underdog story, this is it. So I don’t mind being wrong.

This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime team.

It appeared to me, over the last few weeks and last night, that Hamilton is just done with Texas. He just doesn’t seem like he wanted to be there.

Jurickson Profar joins the club of those with a hit in both their first regular season and first post-season games. Profar is the youngest ever to do so.

Nolan Ryan was pitching for the Astros against the Phillies in the eighth inning of the Game 5 of the 1980 NLCS with a 5-2 lead and 6 outs from the franchise’s first World Series appearance. He botched up a come-back grounder and etc, etc – the Astros lost a heartbreaker 8-7 in 10 innings. So, there is something absolutely delicious seeing the look on his fat face when the incredulous turn of events over the past two seasons befell his stinking Rangers. Condign punishment Saint Nolan. And pretty soon your team is going to get old and expensive and… Read more »

LOL, Jim. Exactly. The gloves are off now. I think Luhnow has a good plan and things will get interesting sooner than expected:
