I must say however, “Kevin Appier was by far the best pitcher in Royals history” is a little controversial. -Appier had 45 WAR over 1843 IP = 2.44 WAR/100 IP with a 9.0 and 7.7 WAR seasons and nothing else above 6 -Brett Saberhagen had 38.8 WAR over 1660 IP = 2.34 WAR/100 IP with a 9.2, 7.7 and 6.9 WAR seasons. Saberhagen vs. Appier is a tough one. Appier has a little longer Royals career, but Saberhagen has a definitely better peak, plus the 1985 World Series heroics, so I’d go with Saberhagen.
